This past weekend was the Buck N Doe for Samantha and Mike. They are getting married in June, and I'm a bridesmaid! The Buck'n'Doe was pretty good. It was nice to get out and hang out with friends, and Dance! I haven't danced in a while... well since the BX Dance in Jan... I miss it.. We need to go out dancing more often ladies!

There weren't as many people as i thought there were going to be. But it was still a good turn out. I was actually drunk... not hammered, but definetly feeling it... I felt it after the 1st drink.. LOL... But I haven't drank since the BX Dance... and half of my drinks were free thanks to Tonya...

I didn't get to talk to Samantha much, she was too busy with everything... but i understand. I hung out with Sarah and Cory and Cory's best bud, Willson. He's a good guy... and man are they sunny when drunk!!! lol..

Then we went to Sam's apartment... and that's when the night went downhill... I won't give any details here though... but some of you already now... needless to say we went back to my place, and got to sleep after 5 in the morning...

Then when we all woke up, the 4 of us (Sarah, Cory, Will and I) went out for breakfast at JR's in Brussels... When we go tback, Sarah, Cory and Will left. And I stayed at home and talked with mom, and did laundary, and then we watched the Oscars!

Let me just say that Resse definetly deserved that gold trophy! I only wish that Joaquin Pheionix had won best actor. THat would have been awesome. I loved Walk the Line... You have to see it if you haven't!!! Although at the same time i wish Heath Ledger had wone for that... or all of them! Why do they only pick one?? I also thought that Crash deserved the Best Picture, although i would have said the same for Brokeback Mountain.

Well I'm going to sign off now. I should get back to work...

Reading Week

Well I had reading week this past week. Sad thing is I didn't even touch a book… lol…
I went by pretty fast, even though it was a bit boring. I worked at the store and went shopping with Sarah and Cory on Thursday. I bought a new purse.

Then things sorta changed Friday night. I went into Listowel to pick up Chris but didn't make it that far. Half way to Listowel, near Mr. Mann's house and just before the cemetery, I started to swerve on the icy road, and rolled/flipped the van in the ditch. The thing that saved me funny enough was the snow. I knew what was happening before I flipped. I thought that was going to be my last moment of life. I really thought I was going to die. But to my great surprise I was still alive once the van stopped. And nothing was broken. I was really shook up though. But I was able to call home and Randy and Dad and Travis came out to get me. I'm really glad I have a cell phone. While waiting I tried to find my glasses, but I couldn't see anything cuz I was dark out. Everything in the front of the van flew backwards behind me. Which is a really good thing because dad has a lot of heavy tools in the back of the van. Can you imagine if that crap came forward?

There was only one vehicle that stopped to make sure everything was okay, even though there had to have been a least 20 cars drive by. Once Dad and Randy came, a tow truck drove by and stopped to see if we needed help. Which was kinda cool cuz no one had to call for one. He got the van out, and surprisingly it worked. The only damage done to it was a flat tire, the roof was dented, and the side mirror on the driver's side came off. The only thing wrong with me was a cut finger and really achy muscles.

Mom and dad said that someone was watching over me. I dunno. If someone was I'm very grateful.

Meh

Well its now the end of Week 5, and I have already writen one midterm (ArtHistory 67.5% (a bit disappointing)). Next week I have an English midterm, an Anthro midterm and and English essay due. Then once all that is done I have my "Reading Week"/Winter Break. I'm looking forward to it. I'm starting go through a wierd time. I always feel nervous about something, but I don't know why, or what that soemthing is. Maybe its all the assignments and midterms? I dunno...

I've also been doing a lot of thinking lately. Most of my classes have beed talking about Identity and the self. Which can only be expected has got me to thinking about my identity and my self. Which I'm really not too sure about at this point in my life.

Earlier today I noticed that my Art History prof. has a Geogio Armanii winter coat. And I began to think about how anyone could afford something like that. Me in particular. Is part of my identiy going to be the type of person who can afford/earn clothes and a life style like that? Not that i'm trying to sound like i'm a maternalistic person, but I mean, would I ever deserve to be like that? Some times I think that I'm not even supposed to be this far. I feel like I should just be the type of person who stays in the country and works really really hard for the rest of their life just to make a living... Do I deserve to try and break through and away from the small town and nowhere life? Do I deserve to live out my life's dreams?? Would I even be able to handle my life if it got that far?

As much as I love being in class, I keep wondering if I'll be able to continue to afford it... I also keep wondering if I should have just went to college or do some sort of apprentice? Would I be happy? Am I happy now? Sometimes I have to wonder... So far my university experience hasn't been the fun, partying with new best friends...It's mostly been me tucked away in my room reading, and writing stuff that isn't very exhilarating.

Oh well... what can I say??

Week 3 Update

Well I guess it's time for an update … although not too much has happened. I hope that everyone voted today. I voted last weekend in an advance poll, just to make sure I was able to. I could have voted here in Guelph, but I thought it was more important to vote for the area I come from and live in the most.

It's only the third week and sadly things are starting to pile up again. I have a small report on the Inuit due on Wednesday, but thankfully I finished that earlier today. I also have to do an outline for my english essay that is based on "Drawing Down the Moon" by Margot Adler. Even though an outline is really nothing, I don't really want to think about it right now. I also have to make a mini case study on a medicinal plant for Botany. I'm going to do aloe vera. A plant that I personally think is phenomenal! (especially in the summer). Then I also have to create a newsletter and webpage assignment for my computer class. I'm going to try to finish it tonight. Plus I still have to finish reading "Drawing Down the Moon", Chapter 17 & 18 of Art History, (so I can make notes for next weeks midterm), and I have to finish reading Chapter 1,2,3 of "Aboriginals in Canada" for Anthro. But I'm sure I'll manage. I always seem to.

Plus I went shopping earlier, so I shouldn't have any more tempting thoughts for a while ;)

The First Week So Far

Let's see. I got back here on Sunday night, after a very long day. I worked in the morning, with only a few hours of sleep because of the BX 93 dance the night before. I will admit it was a hoot. I didn't even mind the country music. It was all up beat and I knew most of the songs. On the way over we picked up Ashley and her bf. Ashley was hilarious! I had 2 drinks (oh my! Lol). While Cory had about 7 and Sarah had none. So she was the DD. The good thing about Sarah is that she doesn't need booze to have a good time. She's crazy all the time…

Sunday morning kind of sucked because I could barely talk. I don't know if it was from my bad cold or the dance. But I still couldn't talk very well on Monday. I just got most of my voice back yesterday. Which was great. It's hard to talk to people if they can't hear you properly. Lol

I've also had a hard time with my shedule. I was originally in german, but I was too basic and the prof in charge sad that I was too advanced for it. So I have to take the intermediate one in the fall. I just hope that I don't forget everything, because I haven't done german since fall 2003. oh well. I also dropped my sociology class. So now I'm taking CIS: Intro to computing Distance Ed. We get to do javascript and assignments with the MS Office. Much like grade 11. and I also signed up for Anthropology: Aboriginals in Canada in the 20th Cent. It's with prof. Woodman, and tonite's class was really interesting. So I'm going to stick with it even though I'm scared about having to write an 8 page essay. Eeeek!

I'm also taking english which sounds cool. We get to read the Da Vinci Code, which means I have to bring it from home once we get closer to reading it. I'm excited because I loved that book. We also get to read one called Blankets which is a graphic novel, and it looks really cool.

I also have botany and art history. Botany I think will be really cool. It basically about plants and human uses of them. My art history class is the second part of the one I had last semester. I think it will be a bit better. I have Potvin, and he's made it two 30% midterms and a 40% final. Plus his lectures will be tested. Which is a lot better than before.

Going Back Sunday
Well today is the Thursday before I go back to school. In some ways I'll be glad. I won't have to clean up everyone else's mess besides my own.

Although I think it will be a bit awkward again. And I really hope that next semester goes better grade wise. This semester I had a 79.4 avg. Point 6 off of an 80. if I can pull my grades up just a bit more next semester I will get the Queen Elizabeth II Aiming for the Top Scholarship again for $3500. Which would be really nice. Although I have a bad feeling that by taking English and Botany, I might not be able to do as well as I hope. But I'll have to wait and see what the classes will be like. I might change them if possible.

On Saturday I'm planning to go to a BX 93 dance in stratford with Sarah and Cory. Most likely, you're a logical, practical person ruled more by your head than your heart. With your inquisitive mind and insatiable curiosity, you're probably a great problem solver. And you always gather all of the facts before coming to a timely, informed decision. Easily intrigued, you're constantly finding new ways to challenge your mind, whether it's by reading the newspaper, playing a trivia game, or composing a piece of music. Brown is an impartial, neutral color, which means you tend to see the difference between fact and opinion easily and are open to many points of view. Lol… One story I liked that he told was about sitting in front on the pantheon and just sort of looking around when he saw a chef walk out of a resturant and walk non-suspiciously while he picked up a pigeion off the walk… I'm guessing that the guy ran out of chicken…

I'm hoping that exams will go okay… I have 4 complete days of nothing… so I'll use those days for studying, and possibly shopping for gifts… even though for the most part I have no idea what to get… although I did get an idea for my girlfriends… but I won't say… just yet anyway…

Very True

Very True
Friday, December 02, 2005
7:43 PM
I got this in an email… it describes your personal traits based on birth… My is freakyishly correct…

MAY
Stubborn and hardhearted. I still have another Anthropology one next Tuesday and next Wednesday, I have a Women's Studies essay due. So that is my main homework for this coming week. Then this coming weekend I have Commencment, and I am going home late Thursday night with Randy and Greg. At least this is the main plan.

But so far I am happy with my marks, I've gotten back. They aren't stellar, but they are average. In Anthro I got a 74, and then in my first ArtHistory 1220 I got a 76. My lowest mark was my women's studies, which was a 68. I'm still happy with that because I din't know what to expect. For that midterm we had to write an essay with out knowing what the essay would be on. I was also really impressed with my art history 1510 mark of 77! I was actually expecting to barely pass. That class is pretty hard, and the Prof doesn't tell us what to study, nor does he test from his lectures. So we have to read and memorize huge amounts of material that my or my not be relavent. So far I think I am doing pretty good.

Kristens Weekend In

Kristen's Weekend In Guelph
Sunday, October 30, 2005
9:58 AM

About an hour ago Kristen just left to head to Clinton to go in a bowling tournament. She had her dad drop her off on Friday so she could spend the weekend here in Guelph with me. We actually had a pretty good time, and I only spent about $30 all together. Which I guess isn't that bad, considering she spent over $200. She bought 2 tank tops that were $35 each!! I couldn't believe it. It must be nice to spend what ever you want on clothes. I haven't bought clothes in over a month, almost 2. but right now I can't afford it.

Friday night after we had supper in the UC, we went for a walk downtown and back. It was nice to have someone to walk with. Other wise I don't go anywhere. But it was fun, we saw a lot of people dressed up to go to Halloween parties. There was one guy dressed as Where's Waldo. I found that humorous.

When we got back we watched Pocahontas before going to bed. I forgot how bitter that movie makes me. The English were very arrogant people. Some would argue that they still are.

Then Saturday, we had the excitement of taking the bus to the mall. Kristen didn't like it and complained a lot about it. I found it somewhat funny, because she couldn't keep her balance and she actually fell backwards on to someone who was sitting. The we shopped around the mall. And went to Old Navy and a few other stores. We then walked down to the Zellers, and then back to the mall to watch a movie. We saw 'In Her Shoes'. I was a really good movie. I was quite strange watching it though. I don't think I've ever been so emerged in a movie that I forgot what time, day it was and who I was. It was a very weird feeling.

After the movie we went to East Side Mario's I had the Nachos and she had Fetticini Alfreado. Then we couldn't figure out were to catch a bus back, (stupid Day Planner is not very informative with the bus sheldule) so we walked back. Which wasn't bad.

I also expereienced what it was like to really have nothing to talk about, so I was hearing the same stories I've heard before. Then to top it off, at 2:00 am or 3:00 for those not in bad (it was daylight savings time, we had to turn back the clocks) some stupid drunk pulled the fire alarm. So we had to stand outside in the freezing cold for half an hour. I felt bad for one of the guys 2 floors below me, because he had to look out for one of the others who was pretty much plastered. The drunk guy acutally even fell down one set of stairs, which I imagine will definitely hurt once he wakes up this morning.

Trip to Algonquin

Trip to Algonquin
Wednesday, October 12, 2005
7:49 PM
On Thanksgiving weekend I went to up North with Grandma, Aunt Nancy and my Mom. I went to aunt Nancy's house Friday night and then we left early Saturday morning. After picking up grandma, we left and went through Aurthur and then through to Gravenhurst, and then through alliston, all the way to Huntsville. When we went through alliston there was an art show going on, so we stopped to see it. It was really good. A lot of the artists were really talented, and they were all from the overall area. We ended up going to Huntsville, because we missed the turn to get off in Bracebrige where we were staying.

We looked around there and me and Grandma went to the Dollar-ramma. It was HUGE! I swear it was 5X bigger than the one in Listowel. I didn't buy anything, because I did have any money. But earlier aunt nancy bought hair dye for mom and mom bought hairdye for me. I only have highlights, but mom went red. And I mean RED. Aunt nancy also gave her a hair cut. A really SHORT hair cut (well in comparison to what it was before). But it looks really really good.

Then the next morning, we headed to Algonquin, and drove through it to have lunch in Whitney. Then we drove back through it and stoped at the vistor's center to look at their gallery and museum. I also went on the look out dock. The veiw was amazing! I just wish that the leaves had changed colour a bit more. Then after that we went to another gallery/sale where they had painting for sale. The most expensive one was $59,000 which was actually quite ugly. It was by Robert Batteman. But there were a few really beautiful paintings.

Then we headed home and stopped at swiss chalet for supper. We got to aunt nancy's house around 11:30 pm, and then dad came and got me and mom around 12.

The next day, mom made a ham, instead of a turkey which was really good. On Monday I basically bummed around and watched tv, and hung out with my family. Then I came back to guelph on Tuesday morning. So I was up at 6:30am, and got back around 10:30. I then had classes all day, from 11:30 to 8. It was a long day and a tiring weekend. I noticed this because I started to fall asleep during my art history class. Which wasn't very good. Oh well. I won't fail because of it.

Email to Kristen 2

Email to Kristen 2
Friday, September 30, 2005
11:55 PM
Hey Crazy Kricket!
It's about time that you emailed me...lol... i was going to email you tomorrow if i hadn't heard anything yet. I was getting a bit worried... but by the sounds of things you are still alive and kicking... Lol

It feels sort of wierd because i'm not coming home this weekend.. but i'm really going to need the time to catch up with all of my work... which is A LOT... i wish i would have had the money to buy my text books earlier, because now i have soooo much reading to do.. and to top it off, when i read i have to make notes on it, so i will actually remember what i read and so i can study for the really big and stupid midterms.... which actually start the tuesday after thanksgiving... i can't beleive i've already been here for like a month... it's crazy…

Today a wrote a pre-test that didn't count for anything (luckly) in art history... the reason it was good that it didn't count was because i totally bombed it... like i mean FAILED it... so right now i am scared shitless of the midterm in that class that is worth 50% that is in about 3 weeks... but i hope by then i will have caught up on my reading and would have actually gave my self some time to study (really HARD)...lol

this weekend i aslo have to read 7 chapters for my anthropology class, and that;s the class i have a midterm after thanksgiving.... it really sucks... this last week i feel like i was being a hermit... because i basically locked my self up in my room and read and wrote untill i feel asleep or my hand cramped up.... but tonite i was a little bit easier on myself.... jamie, daniella and i decided that since we had already done some work for today that we would treat ourselves with a mental break and watch a movie... we watched Mulan... i still love that movie! lol....

it was fun to actually socialize with people in real life... which i know probably sounds sad... but it's so true...

Tomorrow i also have to do some laundary which will give me a new scenery for reading... it takes a while for your clothes to wash and dry... especially when you are waiting for it... lol..
Oh! something exciting... i got my first peice of mail here... lol.... mind you it was only a book of cupons that was from the hospitality services here on campus... but it was still mail just waiting in my mail box for me to open... lol... (you are probably thinking i am psycho right now)

It sounds like your having fun! and i mean that sarcastically... lol.. i don't really think it was fair of stacy to do that to u.... but i do agree that it was hilarious that she locked her keys in the car... it's always more funny when it happens to someone else... (i wonder why that is?) lol....

What has the weather been like there? here it's been a bit crazy! on monday? i got caught in the rain because it poured almost all day... i'm glad i had my umbrealla... even though it didn't really help.. i was still soaked from like the knees down and my arms... and then wednesday night it poured around 2 or 3 in the morning and the wind was really bad... i had to get up and close my balcony window because the rain was coming into my room... which isn't a good thing.. and then in the morning it was clear out... very windy though and FREAKING COLD! i didn't realize how cold it was till i got outside and by then i was running late and couldn't go back and grab a better sweater.... oh well stuff happens...

Why did the highschool kids have school off? that doesn't sound right to me....oh well...

I haven't heard anything on the Calvin and dena(?) front... mind you i'm pretty sure that your mom isn't the only one who thinks that dena got pregnant on purpose... for some strange reason girls do that... if she did do it on purpose then i'm guessing it's because she knew things were going rough and she wanted to "keep" calvin... but in time she'll realize she "hates" him just as much as he "hates" her... the sad thing is that a kid will be involved then....

OH! mom got a job... she starts tomorrow working at the beckers in palmerston... the guy that owns it is Haroon... he used to run the listowel one before... any way, for now its a job.. mom is still going to look around for a bit... but at least she'll be able to work during the day so my dad can drop her off and pick her up instead of her taking a $22 cab ride home....

I hope i haven't wrote too much... ( i think i wrote more than you!) ..I hope to see u soon or at least talk to u.... I might be home for a bit next weekend but i'm not too sure....my mom and i are going up north with my aunt nancy and my grandma... but i think we are coming back on the sunday night... so i will probably come back to guelph on the monday nite.... i'm not too sure...But you should see if you can come down here sometime.... we'll have to talk about that a bit later though....

Rite now i'm going to go... I'm going to start some downloading and then i'm going to bed... I'm not sure what time i shoudl get up in the morning though... considering i don't really have a reason to get up too early and i am really dreading getting back to the "grindstone" lol...
But i'll tlak to u soon... email me back! or else! lol
Your Crazy Friend
Amanda

Rain Rain Go Away

Rain, Rain Go Away!
Thursday, September 22, 2005
7:41 PM
Lets see. Today it started to rain and I got caught in it coming from the library and going to my art history class. It's quite funny when you think about it though, because last weekend when I was home, I couldn't find either of the 2 umbrellas that I own. But mom tried to reassure me by saying, "well there's no rain forecasted all week, so you won't need it". Ha! Oh well.

Another funny episode, that turned into a rather annoying predicament happened during my anthology lecture in the War Memorial Hall. The professor's usually have to use a mircophone when lecturing because of the class sizes. Today, our building was getting a cross feed from another class. The other prof was louder than ours, so we couldn't hear her. We wasted a lot of time just sitting there because she couldn't talk over "the Voice". But then the AV guys were able to fix it and she did a short 20 min lecture for us.

Going Home Broke

Going Home Broke
Friday, September 16, 2005
4:23 PM
Well today is the first day I will be going home for a visit. Well technically he was supposed to pick me up at 4, but I guess the alternator went in the van last night, so he has to get it fixed first.

He called my cell after I was walking in to Prairie with all of my books. Last night I was brutally and abruptly awaken by the horrendous sound of the fire alarm in my building. It went off at 4:00 in the MORNING!!!!!!!!!

The night before, at 3:30 in the morning, Mountain (or was it Maritime?) had there alarm go off and that had also woken me up. I was not impressed.

To top it off, when the alarm went off last night, I had only gone to bed at half past Midnight, because I was talking to mom on the phone. So when the alarm went off, I had only had a few hours of sleep. Then I missed out on at least and hour and a half of sleep because the alarm went off a second time, after I came back in and climbed up the tower!

What made me even less impressed was the fact that I had an 8:30 am class, which meant that I had to get up around 6:30 to get ready. As it is right now, I think I'll take a nap, or else I won’t be able to make it though my next classes at 2:30 and 5:30.

…. An Update on My Classes
Yesterday I had a Studio Art Lab, which turned out to be totally different than I had anticipated. It was an enitre class devoted to mainly sculpture and video. Two things of which I have no immediate interest nor are they strong mediums for myself. So today, I dropped that and took the 2D Studio Art, which luckily enough, is at the same time as the one I dropped. After Studio Art, I had Anthropology and the Professor seems to be all right. I think she can be a hard ass if she wants. Then a little later I had my second Art History class, which sounds very interesting. However the Prof. seems like she might be a bit of a push over. She doesn't have complete control over the class like she should.

Then at 7, I was supposed to have a Women's Studies Seminar, however the TA never showed up. So as a class we decided to leave. Then I went for supper and came home and talked with Daniella for a bit. Then I went and watched "The Breakfast Club" which I had downloaded last weekend. That movie was awesome, and I can see why so many people are obsessed with it. I think it's one of those movies that you have to see at least once in your life time.

First Day of Classes

First Day of Classes
Monday, September 12, 2005
7:37 PM

Today at 830, I officially started my classes. I only have 2 on Mondays, and they are Women's Studies with Professor Smith and Ancient Art History with Professor Marner. Both teachers seem really interesting. I feel I'll be learning a lot from both of them this year. Prof. Smith speaks Chinese and for his Ph.D. he studied women in Manchurian (sp?) during the Japanese occupation. Prof. Marner, just got back from living in Ireland and Britain for the last 16 years.

Both classes seem really great. Today was also my first time on the bus. I took it to go to Zellers to pick up a few things. I wanted to get a fan, but they were all out of the size I wanted. But I bought a new pair of jeans and some office supplies.

Right now I feel like reading my text books (weird eh!) but sadly, I haven't bought any yet. I have to wait for my extra OSAP money to hit my bank account. At the moment I only have about $200, and text books will be costing me at least $400 if not more.

Life At Guelph So Fa

Life At Guelph So Far
Thursday, September 08, 2005
11:52 PM

Let's see… where to begin!? On Sunday, I moved into Guelph. At first it felt like a normal day, like we were going to go shopping or something. However when I got there I knew it was different. Not just an ordinary day I have ever felt before. After I found my room, Chris helped me start to move stuff in. When we got downstairs, we found dad who left to park the van, and we got some Orientation Volunteers to help move the rest of our stuff into my room. I didn't have time to unpack because mom and dad had to leave and I had a resident meeting.

At the meeting I met a few people, mostly a girl Jamie. I also met my RA Kojo. He seems cool, but could quite possibly be too much of a partier. Later that night I went to the Bull Ring, to watch a live band. I didn't feel like going to the pep rally. At the Ring, I hung out with Jamie, met another girl named Daniella, and met a few guys that sat with us. They were Jake and Rob, who live in eco house, in east. They seem really cool, and Rob is nice. Jake is into the skateboarding/biking/band playing thing. Which is cool.

Then on Monday, I hung out with Rob and one of his friends from high school, named Eric. We went to find some of their other friends, and they have a lot! It was a bit boring, because I didn't really know what to talk about, so I would just listen. But I hung out with them because they were faces I recognized and I didn't see anyone else. I also bought a new Guelph hoddie and t-shirt. That cost me $65. Then later that night I went to see the documentary "The End Of Suburbia". It was really good. There was a discussion after words that left me pumped for classes next week. However that was dashed a bit when I went back to my room to finish unpacking.

Then on Tuesday I went for a campus tour with Kojo, and most of the other residents in Grassland 3. when the tour was over, I went on a tour with Daniella to see the downtown of Guelph. The downtown seems really cool. I wish I could have spent more time there. But being with Daniella, could have been a bad thing. She is a Catholic and wanted to check out the church she would be attending. She wanted to see how long it would take for her to get from campus to the church. I thought she would be taking the bus, but I was wrong. We walked 45 freaking minutes! And I'm not a big walker yet. Needless to say I was pooped by the time I got back to my room. I was also really sweaty, so I took a shower.

I was going to go to the battle of the bands that night, but I was to tired. Plus my computer had a virus. So I had to wipe the system, and start over. Then I talked to Travis on the phone, and called mom later before I went to bed. They seem to be adjusting well.

Then yesterday, I didn't get up till 11, and then around 2 I went out for lunch with Jamie, a guy named Ryan who lives a few doors down from her, and a girl named Kristy. Then Jamie, Daniella and I went to a WETT presentation of what not to do in class. It was quite comical. After that I went to the bookstore to check out books, and then went back to my room and talked with dad and Chris on msn. Then around 830 I went down to get Jamie so we could go see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It was an awesome movie, however I almost froze because it was outside.

Then today, I had to get up early so I could go get my osap. However I didn't get up early enough, and was late getting to the hall. I also had a BA program meeting, so I had to leave the line and I was one person away. After the meeting which was good to go too (lots of information) I went for lunch and wondered around. At one booth set up, they were giving away school planners for free! I took one even though I already spent $12 on a Degrassi one before school started. Sucky part is, I'll be using the free one, because it has all the school info and bus routes. It was has deadlines and etc. Then I went back to the Peter Clarke Hall to get my OSAP. You should have seen the line of people! It was unreal. But I don't think it took as long as it looked. I was in and out in less than and hour and a half. Then I wandered some more, and eventually had super. After super I went to see two movies playing in the engineering hall. The two movies playing were the Jacket and Crash. Both were excellent and definitely worth buying. Then that led me here. And now I'm going to head off to bed.

Tomorrow, I'm going to go to a pre-lecture, and then at 6-1am, I'll be on my way to Stratford to see "As You Like It" and they even have the back stage info session, which is cool. I can't wait.

Email to Kristen Abo

Email to Kristen About Move In
Wednesday, September 07, 2005
1:57 AM

hey there girly!
Hows it going? Your email was so formal.... hope you don't mind reading mine...lol..I hope your having fun with out me.
Every thing is going pretty good. Moving in was somewhat wierd, (no one wanted to help us, so we had to wait for a really long time). I finally got everything unpacked last night. These last few days have been busy and almost unreal. it feels like i'm only on a week long trip. but i'll get used to it. The first night i went to the Bull Ring, which is a hang out which sells fair trade coffe, and fairly cheap food. they also sell booze, but it's a hang out for everyone. That night they had a live band, which was really good, except that they had the music WAY too loud for the size of the room. but it was kool. i met a few people. Even some guys, surprise, surprise. I actually met them all at the bull ring. the one guy who is really nice, and somewhat cute, is Rob. but i won't have any classes with him because he is taking economics, or some other different course than me. He's from Oakville and has a lot of friends here.
Almost no one knows where listowel is.... i think that it's funny.
yesterday i hung out with Rob, some of his buddies, and this girl named jamie, who lives a few floors below me.... (By the way, I'm at the very top of the Prairie building!!!) we wondered around campus, and then eventually i came back to my room. Then later last night, another girl and i went to see a movie playiing in a lecture room. it was called "the End of Surburbia: Oil depletion and the end of the american dream". It was about, how eventually the world will run out of fossile fuels, like gas and oil, and what they predicte will happen.. after the movie, there was a small decusion i stayed for... it was good. I made me anxious to start classes next week.
after the movie i unpacked. then this morning, my Rez Assitant, took our tower on a tour of the campus. and then i went on a tour of the city and downtown. it seems really nice, and i love the buildings... it was funny, cause i ran into stuart skinner on the downtown tour. i forgot he was going here. i have only seen him and chealshy (spelling?) from our school, although there are supposed to be a few more people here.
while downtown, i told this one girl, daniella, that i would hang with her, because she had to split from the group. she wanted to see the church she was going to be joining.... i didn't realize this till it was too late though. but anyway, the part that sucked was that she also wanted to time and see how long it would take to get from the church to the campus.... it took us 45 mins!! i was so freaking exhausted by the time i got back... i had to take a shower too because it was really hot out side today...
then after that i had a bit to eat and came back here to find out my computer was being a pain in the ass.. but i think it had a virus, so wiped it and started fresh... which is really sad since i've only had it for a few weeks..lol.. that is why i'm still up and it's almost 2 in the morning. but i also talked to my mom about an hour ago. so that took up time too.
anyway i should be heading to bed.... email me back... hope this email wasn't too long... but at least it will give you something to do...lol ! ..
oh.. if you don't mind, i'll take doubles. i don't have the scanner here with me, and i'm the only one that knows how to use it properly..lol... sad considereing dad bought it. ;)
anyway.... night night... hope to see u on msn soon
Luv Ya
Amanda

Last Day of Work

Last Day of Work
Wednesday, August 31, 2005
11:09 PM

Today was my last day working for the Molesworth Convenience Store. Well at least for now. The odd weekend that I come home, I might work for a few hours, as long as I give them enough notice.

Today was not only my last day it was also my busiest. This was due to the fact that gas prices decided to become extremely flipping retartdedly ridddikulas. Yesterday the store received a shipment and the price was able to stay at 102.9. In Listowel, the price went from 103.9 to 125.9. Most places stayed around 117 or 119. It has seriously gotten retarded. In most of the bigger cities, the prices even reached 130 and 140 per liter. I don't understand how these companies can get away with it.

Being as we were the cheapest in the area, we got hit. Big Time! I sold more gas between 2 and 7 than Beany sold from 8 to 2. actually I sold double than what she did. People were all coming in and filling their tanks, and most of them were big trucks or SUV's that took more than $60. There had to be at least 10 vehicles pump around $100 or more. Which is really sad. How does anyone feed their children?

But to end the day on a high note. I was given $150 bonus by Beany. I wasn't expecting anything, but hey, I'm not going to refuse it. She gave it to me because I was such a good worker and employee and family friend. She wanted to wish me good luck when I go off to school. Which is honestly really nice of her. After she gave me my money, she gave me a great big hug, which felt really nice. I don't get hugged that often, and this time it almost made me cry. I'm really going to miss working there even though I would complain from time to time about having to go to work.

Less Than One Week

Less Than One Week!
Monday, August 29, 2005
12:37 AM

I can't believe it… I have less than one week left at home and of summer. Next Sunday at this time I will be in my new dorm room worrying about being able to get into the shower in the morning. In less than one week I have to say goodbye to my parent and brothers. Which I guess in the long run won't seem so bad, but right now I know that I will miss them.

I can see it right now. Dad and mum are going to be crying, either in my dorm room or else on their way home. As it is, I have to watch what I say or else dad will go off like a leaking faucet. The other week, a lady brought me a cake while I was work, and when I relayed the events to my dad, you could see him wiping tears away.

Another reason I can't believe it's only less than a week away, is that I haven't finished buying everything I need. I still need a backpack, some towels, a memory key, and I really should get another alarm clock. Plus I still need to buy other essentials like shampoo, and razors, and toothpaste. I should also buy a new toothbrush, being as I've had this one for the last, almost two years. It's getting a bit worn out, and I keep seeing ads, saying to replace it every 3 months. Oh well. I haven't had a infection or major disease yet.

Wednesday August 24

Wednesday, August 24, 2005
3:15 PM
'Sin City'
Last night I rented the movie, Sin City. It is based off the graphic novels by Frank Miller. The graphics and the feel and look were totally awesome. This is definitely a movie worth buying.
The movie was like watching 3 separate movies, that are all tied together. It is also jam packed of awesome actors, such as Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Britney Murphy, and the hottie Clive Owen.

Like mentioned before the graphics were awesome! The movie was almost entirely black and white, with accents of red, blue, and green. For example, on character had blue eyes, but the rest of her is black and white.

I have always loved black and white photos with colour added to emphasize a key feature. However, my grade ten teacher wasn't impressed with one of my sketches in my assigned sketch book. However, this movie has re-inspired me to continue with drawing like that.

Tuesday August 23 20

Tuesday, August 23, 2005
2:17 AM
My 'Best' Friend Sarah

Today , Monday August 22, 2005, my mom and I went down to Stratford to meet up with my friend Sarah. I was supposed to do this meeting last Friday, but with the storm, I wasn't able to drive down there. The main reason I was going to Stratford was so Sarah, who is in hair dressing school, could cut my hair. And trust me, I needed a cut.

After giving my hair a much needed trim, and style, my mom and I took her out to diner at King's Buffet, a very good tasting Chinese Food restaurant. It was really nice to be able to hang out with her on our own. Usually she is either with her boyfriend Cory (who by the way is a total sweetie) or she is with her 'other' best friend Samantha. Sarah and Samantha have been losing touch with each other, even though they go to the same school together and see each other everyday. I on the other hand have known Sarah since we were 2 or 3.

I don't get to see her very often, and she wasn't in my life at one point for a very long time. However, we have always been able to pick up where we left off the last time and continue on.

A Good Day

Saturday, August 20, 2005
11:07 PM
Today was a good day. After watching the news and reading the newspaper, I realized that sometimes it is good to listen to your intuition. Yesterday as I was headed to Stratford to get my haircut, I decided to turn around in Listowel. Listowel is a small little town only 10 minutes away from my house, and Stratford is about 45 to 60 minutes away. The reason I stopped in Listowel was because I could barely see the road in front of me. The rain was falling so fast is was hard to keep the wipers going the same speed.

Later that night and today I realized that it was good for me to stay home and turn around in Listowel. In the small town of Millbank, on the way to Stratford, a tornado touched down demolishing many barns and houses that where in its path. Millbank wasn't the only town either that experienced tornado like weather. On the Conestoga lake, many cottages had their roofs blown off and some were even shifted on their foundation.

If I would have continued to drive to Stratford, I would have been right in the middle of the storm. And let me tell you, tornados and storms of that sort are one of my worst nightmares.

Today was also a good day for another reason. It is always a good day when you realize that you and your job are appreciated. I work at the Molesworth Convenience store in my small village, and have been working for the last three years. There have been many countless days and shifts where I have had to cater to real jerks. However there have been a few customers that have touched my heart and they are always pleasant. One such customer is Anna Wilhelm. She and her family moved into a house down the road from the store almost a year ago. Her two children have some of the best manners I have ever witnessed in the tween age group. Her son will be entering high school this fall, and her daughter will be entering either grade 7 or 8.

Tonight I thought was going to be like any other night when she comes in, however I was surprised to the point that I was almost speechless. She baked me a golden fluffy chocolate iced cake. She wanted to congratulate me and give me the best of luck on going off to university in the fall. She has been one of the only customers interested in what I will be pursuing in the future. She also said that my polite and friendly nature would be missed as she enters the store after I'm gone. Compared to my boss and her daughters, I am the one that always smiles and lets people talk about their troubles and life. I also don't judge what they say or how they look or what they are suspected of doing in their spare time.

By baking me a cake and delivering it to me, it shows that someone in this world appreciates me and the work I do, even though I may not be family or her best friend in the world. Hurray! However, just so you don't think that I'm miss money bags, I had to borrow money ($800) from my brother Travis. I also had to borrow money from my dad. I was only able to put $280 towards it. The rest of the money I have made this summer I have to use to buy other things to move into my dorm. I also need to buy some new pants and tops. The pair of jeans that I am wearing right now, have a huge hole in the inner thigh, which has been mended about 3 times already. :( But I guess I can't complain too much considering I bought these jeans in grade 10 (4 years ago) at Giant Tiger.

Tomorrow I'm going to get my hair cut in Stratford at the hair styling school. My best friend Sarah is there right now, and I am going to get her to do it for me. I hope that she doesn't screw up :( I'm not sure how much practice she has had. But I guess she can't do any worse then what I have had in the past. The last time I had my hair cut the lady cut I WAY too short. I mean she took off at least 2 or 3 inches more than she was supposed too. But thankfully it grew out, and that is why I now need to have another hair cut.

Never Lock Your Keys in the Car

After a fun day of shopping in Kitchener, I have some advice for everyone.... But before i accept (I have until June 13) I want to wait and see if I get accepted any were else...Even though there is a good chance I'll chose Guelph anyway. the other 3 schools that I applied to were Waterloo, Western and Toronto at Missisagua. The only thing with choosing a school is that i don't know how much money i'll have...hopefully i'll get OSAP... I also have no idea what I really want to do...I have WAY too many interests!

However I really think it would be kool to take art history and studio art....but then again, I like english and other history and i think it would be kool to take a german class again...

I better sign off....the announcements at school are almost over which means i have to leave the library and go to art class....we're doing expressionism right now....One of my favorite movements.

Happy New Year One and All!

Hello again. How is everyone doing? I hope all is well. I hope everyone has had a very Happy New Year (hopefully not too many people are too hung over! lol).
My New Years Eve was good. I went bowling with my two brothers and my mom. Then after I took them home, I went back down to the bowling alley to hang out with my friends Kristen and Heather. We bowled some more, and then we ate some very good food, made by all the parent's friends.
Then we headed up to the store (Kristen's House). We watched 10 Things I Hate About You (Heath Ledger is sooo HOT!) and then we watched Bring It On! Yes I know that they are "oldies", but you have to admit that they are really good. Especially for 3 boyfriendless teenaged girls.

Some might be happy to hear that I didn't drink any alchohol. (is that spelt right??) I was a good little girl last night. ;) I didn't fall asleep until around 3:00 and I slept in a paritally broken Lazy Boy. It wasn't the most comfortable, but I surprisingly didn't wake up with a kink in my neck. Which I am very greatfull for.

Once everyone woke up, Beany made us some breakfast. We had eggs, hash browns and sausage. Mighty good if I must say. Once we were ready, we started inventory of the store. It wasn't too bad this year. It only took us about 2 hours which is almost record breaking. :)

Now I am home surfing the net. I thought that I would post another blog. I should leave now. I think that the washing machine is done with my clothers. (I sort of needed to do laundry. I ran out of clean comfy clothes.)
I hope to update maybe tomorrow.

Have A HAPPY 1 JANUARY!!

The Beginning of Something that Probably Won't Last Long....LOL

Hello one and all.... for now probably only one. No one but me at the moment knows that I am starting this. But I hope the WHOLE world will know. Well maybe not the WHOLE world. But my world.

So what do I plan to write about on the Blog thingy, you might ask.
Well I plan to write about some of the very boring, details of my So Called Life... So Far. (Did you maybe guess that from the title??) Well it is my so called life because, well some might say that I don't have much of a life. Well it at least it isn't very exciting, and my social life is almost zilch. Even though (I think) I have a many friends. I just don't get much time to practise the social part of a social life.

For example, right now I am watching (well listening to) Alladin, while most people around my age would be out with friends, at the movies, clubing, playing video games, or what ever else I'm not doing. Oh well. I'll TRY not to complain, (too much any way ;) ).

Lets see, today is the 28th, which is three days after Christmas. Some (who actually care) might be wondering what I got for Christmas. So I will answer that question. This year I recieved Mulan, Alladin, Lion King 1 1/2 all on DVD. Dad gave me The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, the illustrated edition. I can't wait to start reading it. Then Chris gave me The Killers, cd, which I have to say is quite awesome. Then Travis gave me Three Days Grace, and a FRYING PAN! I have no idea why he gave me a frying pan. it's not like we don't have a frying pan in the house. But I must be special, because I now have the priviliage of owing my very own frying pan. I have only used it once, and the rest of the family has used it (i think three times). Now i would like to now how that works exactly. Oh well.

What else should I right about today???

Well for anyone who stumbles upon my blog, i should let you know that i don;t usually have enough time to use the computer(s) in the house. I may only be able to write one blog a week or less. it depends on work, and that lovely thing called HOMEWORK!! oh well. we all need to be edumicated. lol

I should go for tonite. I hope something interesting will happen so that I don't ramble on.
